ORNITHOSUCHUS WITH DINO TRAPPER CLOSE-UPS! AND MORE!

Now, here's a great way to kick off Autumn 2008! JPToys was lucky enough to have the opportunity to acquire one sample of the gem that was discovered three weeks ago, and is now proud to present you several close-up shots from the Ornithosuchus with Dinosaur Trapper. Feel free to take a look at these high-definition pictures!

Also, we have two new galleries in the Fan's Corner to present you. First, a new collection gallery from Justin, with loads of rare, mint-in-box toys. And also up for your viewing pleasure, a custom gallery from long-time forum member Angelrex, which includes customs inspired by unproduced toys, hatchlings and juveniles inspired by well-known JP toys like Bull or Thrasher T-Rexes, and pure creations. Enjoy!

Breaking news: Mattel will (probably) deliver!

Hey folks! Long time without any update (the joys of having a kid ;) ), huh? But it was worth the wait, this one is potentially huge!

As we told you last time, Mattel inherited the Jurassic Park/world license from Hasbro, and revealed they were planning big things for the brand. Indeed, Jurassic Outpost managed to dig up what we can be expecting from Mattel, and if they're correct (and they're usually more than reliable), we're going to have the best Jurassic toy line since, at the very least, 1997 (The Lost World line)! Here's the full scoop:

Recently, Mattel held a showcase for vendors, licencors, and more where they showed off their in-development and upcoming lines. As you can imagine, Jurassic World was there – and from what we have heard, it was easily the biggest highlight of any Mattel offering. We’re going to avoid going into too deep into specifics, as certain items will spoil future surprises, including things about the new film.

However, this is the lay of the land for the upcoming Jurassic World toys from Mattel:

3 3/4″ HUMAN ACTION FIGURES ($10)

Yes, human action figures are back – they will be roughly 3 3/4″ tall, and in scale with past Hasbro offerings. They will follow the Kenner styling of including a small or hatchling dinosaur, and some gear/weapons. However, from our understanding the gear skews more towards collectors than play factor (as in Dr. Ian Malcolm includes a film accurate flare – not a net launcher) – and the toys have articulation that will surely please.

BASIC DINOSAUR FIGURES ($10)

The bread and butter of the line – the dinosaurs are back! Roughly 6″ long, these are comparable to the basic non-electronic dinosaurs of the Kenner toy lines (or the Bash & Bites from Jurassic World). Much like classic Kenner, these dinosaurs are not dressed with permanent mortal wounds, and have simple articulation tied to a basic action feature. One of my favorite bits of news: size of the dinosaurs are considered when choosing what type of toy to make. There will be no miniature adult Tyrannosaurs – it will focus on smaller species like Velociraptor, and Gallimimus.

ROARIVORES (ELECTRONIC DINOSAUR FIGURES) ($15)

Slightly larger than the basic dinosaur figures, these toys focus on electronic roars tied to a biting mechanism. They again do not have open wounds, and while they are not posed as neutrally as classic Kenner toys, they are less awkard than the Jurassic Park 3 offerings. Again, the size of the dinosaurs were considered when developing these toys – so at this time, there are no electronic Velociraptors, but rather species of a larger size will be focused on.

SUPER STRIKE DINOS (DELUXE DINOSAUR FIGURES) ($20)

Slightly larger than the electronic figures, these hearken back to the classic non electronic Kenner dinosaurs of the medium size. An example that was described to use was a Stegosaurus with a tail swinging action that was very Kenner in looks. However, it was apparently closer in size to the JP 2013 Dino Showdows Pachyrhinosaurs.

LARGE DINOSAUR FIGURES (PRICES VARY)

Yes, they have a Tyrannosaurus Rex (two in fact!) and we have heard both steal the show. We’re going to avoid describing them anymore, as they’re worth waiting for the official reveal to be surprised! But it’s worth noting that there are more than Tyrannosaurs in the large scale, and some figures use a “Real feel” latex/rubber, have action features, and electronic roars.

VEHICLES (PRICES VARY)

Not much to say other than they’re film accurate, look awesome, and are scaled to the human figures. Everything in this line is sized correctly, much like the classic Kenner toys. The classic Jurassic Park Jeep has a few details super fans are sure to LOVE!

MATCHBOX (PRICES VARY)

Gone are the fictional vehicles – they’re being replaced with small film accurate vehicles from all five films! Some include small dinosaurs, and the entire lineup was described as similar to the Micro Machines (but bigger) sold alongside The Lost World. This includes some very cool playsets based upon movie moments!

GAMES (PRICES VARY)

There will be games – including something tied to pivotal plot elements of Jurassic World 2!

VARIOUS ‘SMART’/ELECTRONIC TOYS (PRICES VARY)

Drones, remote control vehicles, and more! While a lot of these won’t be cheap, they do offer great modern play functionality.

Some key notes: Mattel’s first Jurassic World lineup will be called something similar to ‘Jurassic World: The Classic Collection’. This lineup is scheduled to hit stores late this year or early next year, and is mainly based upon the first Jurassic Park. While they boast film accuracy for all their items, it does seem to also borrow from Kenner by featuring dinosaurs never seen in the films.

Sometime early spring (mid April) in 2018 the Jurassic World 2 toys will begin to arrive in stores. Much like the classic Jurassic line, it boasts film accuracy and a multitude of figures and offerings. From there, the line should continue to populate shelves with new waves featuring figures from the latest sequel, or past films. There are apparently quite a few more classes/skus of toys from Mattel than those listed above, so there are plenty of surprises in store!

It’s worth noting that some of the basic dinosaur figures were described as slightly exaggerated looking, with proportions and poses that were more cartoony than realistic. Our hope is that between now and release, those items will be refined and perfected to better match their film counterparts (and proper realistic anatomical poses). Otherwise, we’re thrilled by what the line is slated to offer, and cannot wait to see photo’s from it – there are quite a few more surprises Mattel has up their sleeves, so stay tuned!

So there you have it! While of course we'll have to wait and see if this almost "too-good-to-be-true" new line is indeed as amazing as it is on paper, but one thing if for sure, Mattel fully understand what we, fans, have always wanted, something we have waited for so long from Hasbro, all in vain... The only downside is the last part about "slightly exaggerated looking" figures, but we'll remain hopeful until the first pictures start leaking. But in any case, as the saying goes, "good things come to those who wait". And it appears that the wait for a true Jurassic Park toy line is coming to an end, finally. Stay tuned, the next months will definitely be most exciting... ;) A huge thanks to Jurassic Outpost for the scoop!

2023's line checklist!

Hey folks! Jurassic World Dominion came and went, but things are far from slowing down for Mattel, with a new Dino Trackers (heh, where have we heard that before? ;) ) line seeing release in 2023, with an onslaught of new and obscure species to add to your shelves, along with the continuation of the fan-loved Hammond Collection! What's not to love? What, more, you say? Well, how about a new line celebrating Jurassic Park's 30th anniversary with many throwbacks to the Kenner era (humans with dino hatchlings, real-feel skin, and more!)? Definitely a great time to be a JP/JW toy collector! As usual, we'll keep updating this checklist through the year, so keep coming back! :)

LEGO "RAPTOR ATTACK STUDIO"

"Britt" sent Dan over at Dan's JP3 page this very cool photo of the raptor attack studio playset from Lego which will contain two raptors, a Pteranodon, actor, actress, and a cameraman. It has 154 pieces and will reatil for $19.99. ELECTRONIC HATCHLINGS SHOWING UP There has been plenty of talk going on the inGenNet boards about these little guys showing up. I personally haven't spotted any but from the descriptions that I've been hearing they sound pretty cool. Apparently these new hatchlings are different from the old ones from Jurassic Park and TLW in that they have an electronic sensor in them that gives off a sound when you wave your hand in front of them. The set includes a Triceratops, a T-Rex, and a Velociraprtor. Be on the look-out for theses guys and let me hear from you if you spot any. Update: (5/22/01) - The hatchlings are indeed showing up in fact, I spotted some over the weekend at my local Toys 'R' Us. So be on the look-out for them and you can check out a picture of the T-Rex hatchling in the JP/// series of photos.

HATCHLING PHOTOS ADDED

I put it off for a long time while working on other site additions, but I finally got around to adding some hatchling series photos for your viewing pleasure. I'm constantly adding and updating photos in the various sections so make sure you keep checking back. Speaking of updating photos, I've updated the JP/// series with some pictures of theses guys in their actual boxes instead of those old toy fair pictures that we had before, so check them out! RELEASE DATE FOR JP3 TRADING CARDS I'm not a big card collector myself but I know that some of you that check this site probably are, so I thought I'd pass along this bit of info. that was found on e-bay. This promo sheet for the new cards which will be released on July 5th, announces a new 3-D technology which seems to make the dinosaurs jump off the card at you! Click on the photo for a better look.

MY TRIP TO CVS

After reading about all the sitings of the new JP/// "Dino Packs" (see yesterday's news) I decided to go and look for myself. At the first CVS I had no luck but I decided to try another one at the other end of town, and I hit the jackpot baby! They had a display up front with about 6 or 7 packs left (I got two) and also to my surprise they had JP/// diecast and the other figures w/dinos (I picked up Amand Kirby w/Spino). Each pack contains three dinos that are very well detailed to be so small, you could actually use theses guys as hatchlings for your dioramas! As for actual sizes, they vary any where from about 1-2 inches in length. Here's something interesting that I didn't know, these packs are actually meant for playing a game! You get different scores for how the dinos land when you roll them. For example: a standing dinosaur is woth 5 points and a resting dino on its side is worth 4 points. Out of a possible 18 different species, I did pretty well in not getting any duplicates. The ones I got were: T-Rex, Baby stegosaurus, Baby Triceratops, Compsognathus. Parasaurolophus, and a Chasmasaurus. Like I said, they all have excellent detail and nice color schemes. Heres a complete list of the ones available: Dilophosaurus, T-Rex, Baby T-Rex, Velociraptor, Spinosaurus, Compsognathus, Dimetrodon, Triceratops, Baby Triceratops, Stegosaurus, Baby Stegosaurus, Chasmasaurus, Brachiosaur, Pachycephalosaurs, Parasaurolophus, Ankylasaurus, Pteranodon, and Gallimimus. So keeplooking around and maybe you'll luck up to! Sorry for the lack of a picture but I don't have access to a scanner (maybe I'll get one for my birthday!).

PAUL KIRBY & MILITARY DIVER REVIEWS

My good buddy Tyrant took some time to give us his thoughts on the Paul Kirby & Military Diver sets. He was even kind enough to take some pictures of them for us. Here's what he had to say: Diver: No boubt about it, this figure has no flaws! He has this really cool torpedo launcher to stop the aquatic monsters of Isla Sorna! His spinosaurus hatchling is far superior to Amanda Kirby`s spino. The coloring on it is superb! It`s grey, with a maroon colored sail, and metalic blue markings. This is a must for any Jurassic Park collector. I give the whole set a 10! Paul Kirby: Its ok, but whats with that coloring! He has a pink shirt, with olive green pants, and a goofy looking rip on the bottom of his left leg. And they didnt give him a mustach, and his hair is orange! He is still alot of fun to play with! But I think I am gonna re-paint him, he has a pretty cool net launcher. Now his stegosaurus is the best stegosaurus hatchling made! Its color is so cool, it was made so accurate, it looks close to the Stan Winston Studios one. I give the whole thing an 8, because of the stegosaurus.

JP TOY NEWS FROM OVERSEAS

It's been a while since we've had an update from our European friends overseas, so here it goes. According to Raptoralpha over at Jurassic Park Toys, it looks like more and more JP/// toys are finally finding their way to toy shelves in Europe. Here's what he had to say: "Apparently it looks like Hasbro still surprises us! In the catalogues and the orderlists were everything printed what was going to be released here in Belgium. Now it appears that they released the eggs with hatchlings (+ 12 EUR) and the remote control Spinosaurus (54,36 EUR). All were noticed by our good friend and moderator Raptoralpha in the toymagazines from Broze! Hopefully this is for whole Europe and that they still release other stuff (like Alpha Pteranodon)."

WAL-MART SALE...JP3 STYLE!

First up today, I have to mention my latest find. Now this may not be at everyone's local Wal-Mart yet so don't shoot the messanger! This weekend while at my local Wal-Mart, I checked out the JP3 isle (as I always do) and to my surprise, everything was on sale! But we're not talking a small sale here...we're talking about a major sale! Most everything was at least half off except for the Re-Ak Dinos. Here's a list of what they had and the sale prices: Re-Ak basics (Grant/Raptor) - $1.50, Re-Ak Dinos - $7.00, AT Dino Trapper - $5.00, Marine Copter - $5.00, Tracking Set - $5.00, Hatchlings - $2.50, Walking Raptor - $5.00, Animatronic Spino - $25.00, Board Game - $5.00 and the Dino Dex - $7.00. I'm guessing you get the point...this is an awesome sale! If your local Wal-Mart doesn't have these prices just yet, keep checking back because I have a feeling this is not just a local sale. Let us know if you find any great bargains out there....happy hunting!

CAMOXTREME SPOTTED!!

This is a little quicker than I expected them to be spotted but apparently JPTC forum member "Carcharodontosaurus" has spotted some of the new CamoXtreme 2-packs at his local Shopko. Here's what he had to say: "I just got back from my local Shopko, I went to the toys section and the JP3 was moved to the back, and there were 3 Poseable Raptors, and 5 Alan Grant w/Raptors.....And on the bottom rack there were 3 Desert packs, 1 Lava pack ,and 2 Artic packs.....I got 1 of each and left......I has so shocked to find them.....there here you just have to check out your stores.....The cards in the packs are just 1 thin cardboard piece with a picture of the hatchlings, and on the back there is a disriction of the items in english spanish and some other language..... **Lava Card Info." "In the wake of a massive volcanic eruptions. these red-hot dinos evolved with flame colored camofladge to rule their lava covered domain." **Desert Card Info." "In the heat of the desert. these sand-dweling dinos are camofladged to conquer precious water resources-and defend themeselfs from enemies!" **Arctic Card Info." "In the snow blasted plains of the extreme north. these elite dinos use their glacial camofladge to hunt prey and attack artic adversaries He has plenty more to say about them on our message boards so make sure to check that out. A couple of site updates: I updated the JP review section today with a new review from Tyrannosaurus Rex of the JP Jungle Explorer (which is an awesome review!) and I'm almost ready to open up that collectors card section so be on the look-out for that very soon...stay tuned!

CAMOXTREME CHAOS!

Boy, this whole line just continues it's downward sprial! First they're up, then they're gone...who know's what to beleive! This time they're gone again but it's the 2 packs according to Mr_Goodbytes: "Once again, Entertainment Earth has removed a CamoXtreme Item. This time, however, it is the hatchling 2 packs that have been removed. The Confusion Continues!!! Here is my theory.... I think that Entertainment Earth recieved them early, so they began selling them. However, the shelf date was pushed back to April just like the others, and Hasbro has told them not to sell any more. In any case, they are gone. Let's just hope they bring them back." Who knows what's going on but you can make sure that we'll continue to keep you up to date on whatever happens with this mysterious line! A little site update for ya, it seems that our plans for the big JPTC anniversiary hit a bit of a snag (to no fault of our own but that's another story). Anway, things seem to be back on track for now so we just ask for your patience while we get things back in order. We think you'll find the wait well worth it! Have a great weekend!

JP3 & KING KONG?

Here's a cool bootleg find from forum member 'Imperial Drannian' that features a King Kong packaged with a JP3 Spino hatchiling. Here's what she had to say:

"While we were down in the Highlands (Australia) we ducked into a 'cheapie shop' and, right next to the bootlegs of DV we saw were some really laughable bootlegs of Kong. A five second examination of the packets revealed that they in fact also conained bootlegged TLW/JP3 hatchlings. The one pictured has a Spino. I recall seeing a Rex & Raptor, will make an endeavour to pick one up next time I'm down there if they are dirt-cheap enough for me."

In other news today, we have a new site poll up. Be sure to vote and let us know your favorite non-JP dino toy line.

ADIOS POP-UPS!

As of yesterday, the JPToys forum officially went pop-up free! We of course all hope this is a permanent fix but the Proboards staff does want to remind everyone that they can't promise we'll never see pop-ups again in the future. So keep your fingers crossed!

In other site news, we have two additions to our new collections section from Rick Raptor and DinosaurNeill. Also today we have four new reviews from Takutanuva of TLW Peter Ludlow, Roland Tembo, trike hatchling and the JPS2 Ian Malcom. Rick Raptor checks in with his thoughts on the JPS1 Velociraptor and the JP3 animatronic Spinosaurus and Carnotaurs has a take on the JP3 Stalking raptor. While in the review section, you may notice that we've done some much needed re-organization. We hope this makes finding your favorite review a little less tedious. Thanks to everyone for those great submissions...enjoy!

JP TOY INSPIRED ARTWORK

Every once in a while some truly unique JP related items surface on the net that we like to pass along to you guys. A couple of years ago it was the custom painted Bull T-Rex. This time forum moderator Stich came across a wonderful Baby Triceratops painting on ebay. The painting was done by Tom Amici using the JPS2 Tricertops hatchling as a guide. He used airbrush, colored pencils and acrylics. You can view a larger verison of the image by clicking on the thumbnail to the right or by viewing the auction itself.

NEW CUSTOMS ADDED

Bucketfoot-Al continues cranking out customs at a record pace here lately as evidenced by the latest additions to his gallery. They include a Safari Galaxy Triceratops, Tanyia Chasmosaurus & Brachiosaurus. This should tide us over until his anticipated Horizon Brachio. In other custom news, have you seen the latest over at Big Razzie's? She's posted a few new ones (all JP series 1) from 'Amber' that include a repainted Alan Grant into John Hammond (complete with cane), and a very colorful Pteranodon hatchling & Velociraptor. Be sure to check those out when you get a chance. Last but certainly not least today, we have a new poll up for your voting pleasure.

NEW BOOTLEG FOUND

Forum member 'Permian-Triassic Fan' came across a new JP3 Ankylosaurus bootleg recently at his local Dollar Store. The package comes complete with a smaller repainted version of the JP3 Triceratops and repaint of TLW Eddie Carr Triceratops hatchling. Check it out in our bootlegs section today!

PAPO'S YEAR OF T-REXES... AND A BRACHIOSAURUS.

Every year Papo releases more sculpts, and every year we hope for even better sculpts than last time. This year, fortune smiles upon us! We get a T-Rex in a running pose (did someone mention V-Rex?), a repaint of the first Papo Rex (suits the Rex in the first movie, right?), and a hatchling in both green and brown. While the running T-Rex's catalog shot clearly shows it to be green, a brown version has already surfaced.

And that's not all. Papo listened carefully to the fans and finally made a very cool Brachiosaurus! Let's hope it's BIG. And of course, in earlier news Papo also comes with a Tylosaurus. Credit goes to Raptor86, lucidstillness and DemonCarnotaur for letting us know!

For larger pictures, please visit our Papo section!
